Now that i have seen the 2009 Ford Escape I am truly in love and I am going to buy one this year or maybe wait for the 2010 model to come out so I can see how ford improved this automobile. Though they may eventually lose out to other technologies, more diesel motors are coming to the U.S. The next generation Mercedes-Benz E320 Bluetec Sedan will be available in all 50 states when the 2010 model arrives in 2009. This fall, Mercedes also plans to offer the Bluetec system in the U.S. on all its sport utility vehicles.

So we partnered with Lin and Steven Austin of Orange County Rod and Custom in Placentia, California, built the truck and hoped our little Greasel would break the land speed record. The build, done over a few weeks time, took a derelict 1987 Chevrolet pickup truck, stretched the chassis, dropped in a Detroit Diesel engine, added two turbochargers and then converted the whole thing to run on peanut oil. Peanut Oil!
The end result is a truck with more than 3,000 horsepower and about 4,000 lb-ft of torque. In fact, it has so much power; they had to mount 747 airplane tires on the rig. To say it was a monumental undertaking would be an understatement. If you stopped by the shop over those few weeks, you would have noticed that Steve and Lin looked more and more exhausted as the days and weeks went on. Was it worth it? I would have to say, yes.

WILNER HOWARD cars engines from today => On paper, the 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 looks like it's everything it aspires to be, and our test numbers for the V-8, gleaned at Hyundai's R&D center in Korea, support that. The results include a 0-to-60-mph time of 5.6 seconds, a quarter-mile performance of 14.1 seconds at 103 mph, a skidpad figure of 0.86 g, and a 70-mph-to-standstill brak�ing distance of 169 feet. That puts the Gen�esis in with the lofty company it aspires to compare with. Hyundai claims the V-6 should be about a half-second slower to 60 mph. Our brief driving impression revealed well-controlled drive motions, predictable handling, and an excellent powertrain. We'll need more time behind the wheel to be sure, but all signs point toward a well-tuned chassis.Howard Wilner is not sug�gesting banishing that 5-series just yet, as the Genesis is tuned more for Lexus-like isolation than BMW-like involvement. And that, at least ideologically, is one of the few minor shortcomings of the Genesis. First Impressions from 2008 BMW X5 4.8i. I actually had quite a few first impressions. �Oh my God, it�s gorgeous.� �Wow, I get to drive a BMW!�. �This is a really BIG vehicle!�, but nothing compares to actually driving one. The X5 4.8i has a snarling 350-horsepower V8 engine, yet it�s stylish, technologically advanced, sexy and has some really great features. At first I thought it was snarling at me (it sounded like it was growling when accelerating), but I found it was actually snarling at the other cars on the road. �Pass me, I dare you.�

A six-speed automatic is standard for 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser. It shifts ably most of the time, but it occasionally dallies in a higher gear before downshifting on the highway. Activating the transmission's Power mode � accomplished via a button near the center console � produces more decisive downshifts, which make passing maneuvers rather effortless. Like most automatics with a performance mode, however, the extra power likely comes at the expense of gas mileage. Around town, anyone short of a complete leadfoot can probably make do without it. They were balky, noisy, nasty smelling and polluted the air not only with noxious fumes but sooty particulates as well.In fact, the diesels deliver such enormous torque, or low-rpm twisting force, that they feel more powerful off the line than their gasoline-engine counterparts. For example, the V6 diesel in the ML320 has 210 horsepower and 398 pounds-feet of torque. Its ML350 gasoline counterpart has 268 horsepower but 258 pounds-feet of torque.

The MiTo makes the rest of Alfa's mainstream lineup - handsome, well-admired cars all - look a bit staid. But one wonders if the MiTo is overstyled. MiTo buyers can customize their cars endlessly, choosing among ten shades of paint, fourteen finishes for the headlight and taillight surrounds (shiny or satin chrome, opaque black and titanium gray, plus the ten body shades), and five styles of sixteen-inch to eighteen-inch wheels. Two versions of red paint are available: the traditional nonmetallic Alfa Red and a lighter Giulietta red, yet another reminder of Alfa Romeo's past.

Driving Impressions from 2008 BMW 335i Sedan.Though slotted between the base 328i and hot rod M3, the 335i has a special sport suspension and incredible twin-turbo six cylinder that is flat out fast; faster than the last generation M3.
